ABOUT ASIA

PHOTOGRAPHY BY STEFANIE BELNAVIS / THE DIAHANN PROJECT

DIRECTOR/FOUNDER

As an Emerging Choreographer and Artistic Director of PYDANCE, I aim to foster a mind-body connection in dance performance and undergo a creative process that immerses each dancer in their own role throughout the work.

While attending Interlochen Arts Academy, I experienced being surrounded by other artists of various forms while training as a dancer. Constant collaboration and exposure to different artistic processes changed my view on performance art and sparked the interest in how deep an artist can submerge themselves into their work. I create with the intention that each dancer plays a specific role that is uniquely created for them. In preparation of performing their character, I engage in lectures and open dialogue to instill the mental connection while also exploring movement that reflects the mindset, creating a mind-body connection through contemporary dance.I believe this strengthens a dancer’s sense of ownership by taking every performance as an invitation to share apart of themselves, knowing their character is based on their experiences.

I strive to create theatrical dance shows that speak to everyone who views it and temporarily pulls them into the world that has been created by the performers. I’m in the process of establishing the collective in the city of Nashville, producing projects that continue my mission. I believe that my work will benefit dancers of all kinds in the Nashville community and will present dance to the public in ways they’ve never experienced before.
