POOL
Half-hour dance piece commissioned for the 50th anniversary of Nashville's Centennial Art Center
Commissioned for the 50th anniversary of Nashville's Centennial Art Center, POOL examines the Center's history of being founded as a segregated pool, and its subsequent transformation into a public visual arts center open to all. The piece was first presented in the original deep end of the pool, which now serves as the Center's courtyard.
POOL explores how people fall into the system of racism and racialization, and the ways in which African Americans and other minorities have contributed to the success of the country while being continually overlooked and ignored instead of celebrated and supported.
