About

By creating shows that present traditional concert dance through a common or popular subject, PYDANCE reimagines how we think about dance and movement performance. PYDANCE partners with local businesses and
unconventional venues such as restaurants, museums, and parks to bring dance to more diverse audiences. With eleven organizational partnerships, eight performances, and thirteen open dance classes, PYDANCE connected with more than five hundred people last year.
Pyron founded PYDANCE in Boston, Massachusetts while attending the Boston Conservatory at Berklee. PYDANCE has
performed in multiple art spaces such as Tennessee Performing Arts Center, Oz Arts Nashville, Kindling Arts Festival, and the
Boston Contemporary Dance Festival.
PYDANCE acknowledges the lack of professional dance opportunities and realized Nashville needed PYDANCE to continue building a sustainable dance environment for the community.

PYDANCE is a Nashville-based dance ensemble founded and directed by Asia Pyron to create original theatrical dance productions that engage and activate a radical point of view.
Original Productions

POOL
“POOL”, a piece commemorating Centennial Art Center’s history of being born a segregated pool and transformed into a Visual Arts Center for all. Performed in the former deep end of the pool, “POOL” addresses the ways African Americans and other minorities have contributed to the success of the country while being continually overlooked and ignored instead of celebrated and supported.

MURDER
OF CROWS
PYDANCE presents “Murder of Crows”, a movement based narrative centered around a late-night soiree evolving into a murder mystery dystopia. Inspired by Film Noir from the early 1940’s, this piece investigates the cynical attitudes and motivations of each character and their relationship to each other as they begin to unravel secrets that float between them.

GOD'S
COUNTRY
GOD’S COUNTRY is an original PYDANCE production, portraying the “American horror story” described by the band, Chat Pile, and their awareness of neglect and ignorance towards humanitarian issues that spread throughout the United States. Based on Chat Pile’s album, this production presents a movement-based adaptation of Pile’s intent of “trying to capture the anxiety and fear of seeing the world fall apart.”
